My Take on the Caitlin Clark/Angel Reese Double Standard Deal

Classless or competition? I’ll let you decide.

My take on the whole Angel Reese/Caitlin Clark thing is this: People bring up race, but most bring up class. What Reese did was over the line by following her around and did what she did. Of course when Caitlin did the “You Can’t See Me” hand gesture, people didn’t give a damn. When Angel did it, it caused people to go up in arms about it. Former ESPN anchor Keith Olbermann called her a “f — -ing idiot” while Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy called her a “classless piece of s — -.” You know what I thought? I thought she had Isiah Thomas vibes during the last ten seconds and they we up by 17.

That moment took all the attention away from a great season for LSU. When the Iowa team lined up to shake their hand, only the staff did. Not the players. They were busy celebrating.

That program gave me 1988–89 Detroit Pistons vibes. That’s just me.

Angel said that she don’t fit the narrative and she’s OK with it. Opinions of her aside, she’s still a solid basketball player. But her GPA is subpar to what others on the court had. But she still gets paid with all the NIL deals in place and hat tells me it’s all about money these days. I think a lot of kids with higher grades will get even better NIL deals because NIL deals are a boon in this day and age.

And here’s where it gets interesting: For everyone saying Angel Reese called Caitlin Clark a…well, you know. An uncut clip went viral, showing that she actually said “this ain’t no one man show.” To be blunt, it doesn’t matter what was said, people are still going to attack Angel Reese for what they call classless behavior. I moved on from that. This is why sports fans are total cancers, fans starting a war between two good athletes.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again: If Caitlin Clark doesn’t get a pass for taunting, neither is Angel Reese. It’s a double standard that won’t go away for a long time. As highly respected reported Holly Rowe said:

“People hating on Angel Reese or Caitlin Clark. Stop. Unapologetically confident young women should be celebrated NOT hated. Get used to it.”

Totally agree with that statement there.
